In his next adventure, Fergus is convinced that each grassy field he spies is greener than the one he is grazing in. But there are fences... hmmm…yes… there are fences to overcome! Fergus perseveres with the classic silliness he’s become known for, and an underlying philosophy.
“…So he reached through, and chose to chew, the greenest he could see.
That fine spring day, the rails gave way, and Fergus, then, was free!”
Recommended for ages 5 to 95, Fergus and the Greener Grass (9” x 9” hardcover) is a book designed to share. With 35 hilariously illustrated pages written in lyrical rhyme, it is perfect for parents and grandparents to read with youngsters.
“When I was a child, my parents read to my siblings and me for hours,” Abernethy says, “so I can relate to the kind of quality time that creates, and how it nurtures children’s literacy. It has been my goal to create books that bring about that kind of enrichment.”
Just one year following the release of Fergus: A Horse to be Reckoned With, (also published by Trafalgar Square Books) Fergus and the Greener Grass is a perfectly fun follow-up for our equine cartoon hero.
The fun is already happening! Graciously hosted by Taborton Equine Books at Quarter Horse Congress, Columbus OH, on October 21st, Jean signed her first copies of Fergus and the Greener Grass for horse show attendees. She watched children pouring over the ridiculously funny illustrations, spoke with Fergus’s Facebook fans, and saw grandparents leaf through the new book with smiles on their faces. “That’s the real reward,” says Jean.
