The 36th Annual American Youth Horse Council Symposium will be held April 12-14, 2013 in Hartford, CT. An annual highlight for horsemen and women of all ages, this event brings together youth and youth leaders from all facets of the equine industry for three days of live demonstrations, presentations, education, discussion, exhibits, awards, and, of course, fun for all.

Hosted by the University of Connecticut, the American Youth Horse Council Symposium will boast more than twenty respected presenters assembled to share their keys to successful youth horse programming and horse management.

This location offers participants the opportunity to visit a number of historical sites and highlight the equestrian activity that abounds in Connecticut including the home of an Olympic rider, an equine rehabilitation center or charming Mystic Seaport. This event presents an opportunity for adult and student leaders in the youth horse industry to come together to learn, network, share ideas and grow as an industry.

The 2013 event, hosted by the University of Connecticut, will boast more than twenty internationally and nationally respected presenters assembled to share their keys to successful youth horse programming and horse management.

Featured speakers include Lendon Gray, founder and president of Dressage4Kids, Inc., which offers the Emerging Dressage Athlete Program and Youth Dressage Festival and Lisa Derby Oden, consultant for nonprofits in strategic planning, program development, corporate development, fundraising, grant writing and grant administration. Attendees will find resources, referrals, and networking to improve their ability to Help Kids Connect Through Horses.

“The University of Connecticut is excited to host the AYHC symposium; this event is designed to showcase the diversity within the horse industry so youth horse leaders can customize a learning experience based on  individual needs and interests ,” said Dr. Jenifer Nadeau, chair of the Symposium Committee and AYHC Vice President.

The symposium attracts a broad representation of youth horse leaders from breed associations, equine sport organizations, Cooperative Extension, universities, and the crucially important hands-on youth leaders from such groups as 4-H, U.S. Pony Club, National High School Rodeo, Future Farmers of America and more.
