This is a reprint of an email the Humane Society sent out on December 20, 2013 to the Habitat for Horses. According to Keith Dane Vice President, Equine Protection, Humane Society, "We need to do all we can to stop Rains Natural Meat from slaughtering horses. January is right around the corner and is the month horses will go back to slaughter here in the United States."

"As you know, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals recently removed the temporary stay which blocked USDA from providing inspectors at horse slaughter plants, pending appeal of our lawsuit against the agency, thus clearing the way for plants to open on U.S. soil for the first time since 2007.
Yesterday, the New Mexico Attorney General filed suit against Valley Meat Company in a suit that is strongly supported by the HSUS, and which we are hopeful will block that plant from opening in the state.
@e urgently need your help to protect horses from being slaughtered at a plant that is trying to open in Gallatin, Missouri.
To help stop this plant, we are asking Missouri residents to sign a petition to urge the Department of Natural Resources to require a waste-water permit and a public hearing, so the public can be heard before this horse slaughter plant can open. If you live in Missouri, please sign this petition. And whether you live there or not, please share this with all of your friends and family in Missouri, and urge them to sign the petition as well."
