In what may be a new trend, Ilene Nessenson, JD, a Certified Yoga Instructor and owner of Holistic Horse Bodyworks is offering yoga instruction for horse and rider.

Learn human yoga poses for riders and other horse professionals such as vets, trainers and farriers who find themselves in ergonomically challenging positions.

The course is offered through Oregon State University extension service.

This hands-on equine and human yoga stretching clinic offers the following:

  • Learn human yoga poses for riders and other horse professionals such as vets, trainers and farriers who find themselves in ergonomically challenging positions that can help reduce neck, back, shoulder and leg pain and tightness, increase flexibility and improve riding.
  • Learn equine yoga poses and stretches to help keep your horse healthy, flexible and performing well.
  • No prior yoga experience needed.

Ilene Nessenson is a certified equine body worker and a certified saddle fitter, in addition to being a yoga instructor.

All that is needed to take part in the yoga clinic is "Stretchy clothes, your lunch and water, a large sheet and towel (they will get dirty), flat, closed toe shoes and a belt (no bling). Optional equipment includes a yoga mat, yoga strap, blocks. Demo horses are provided.

This particular clinic is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2012,   9am-4pm, but others are sure to follow.

Certainly, yoga for horse and rider could be a way of spending quality time together while working increasing flexibity of both horse and human.
