Equine veterinary medicine presents many challenges because of the size and athleticism of our patients. Therefore, examination requires creative thinking in order to get the best diagnostic and prognostic information. Endoscopy allows us to view multiple regions of the horse and provides us an ‘up close’ look. The Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) has recently re-invested in equipment that improves these abilities. Multiple examples will be shown of the utility of this technology.

Dr. Eileen Hackett, professor of large animal surgery at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, is a veterinary surgeon-scientist with extensive surgical experience in equine and other large animal species. She has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgery and upper respiratory disease conditions and surgical treatments.

A native of Illinois and graduate of the University of Illinois Veterinary School, Dr. Hackett completed an internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY and surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. Following residency training, she joined the Colorado State University Department of Clinical Sciences where she worked over 19 years. Dr. Hackett joined Cornell University in 2021 and is delighted to be a part of this unique culture of cooperation and discovery.
