With horses being accident prone and horse riders/handlers not always having computer or medical help readily available when an emergency occurs, new IPhone applications may be just what the veterinarian ordered.

Several new apps address common health and medical emergencies that affect horse health.  Practical information and medication dosages from these apps can be very useful in caring for horses.

  • Developed by a veterinarian, this app covers dosages for 358 different horse drugs and can be accessed with a keyword search.
  • An acupoint app provides images, point classifications and common acupoints for specific horse-related conditions.
  • A flashcard app teaches users about equine ailments and how they can be treated.
  • A prohibited drug app allows the user to access the FEI database for prohibited drugs in various countries.  Although not exhaustive, it does contain many popular trade names with which competitive horse owners should be familiar.
