I Like The Odds, the winner of the 2011 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, was euthanized at San Luis Rey Equine Center on Friday, January 13, 2012,  following a brief battle with laminitis.

The laminitis is believed to have been the result of a necrotic spider bite suffered by I Like The Odds a few days after winning the $2,036,300 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. His Two Million win came in the richest race ever contested at Los Alamitos. This was also the second richest race in the history of Quarter Horse racing.

Owners of the horse, Tom Bradbury, Kim Kessinger and Howard Nichols did everything possible to save the horse, but the apparent spider bite led to a swollen leg that began deteriorating rapidly and resulted in severe laminitis in both feet.

Dr. Rick Overly at Los Alamitos has had experience dealing and treating these types of bites and he believes it was a spider bite.

I Like The Odds won three of seven starts and earned $911,606 in his brief career. The son of Corona Cartel and out of the stakes winning Fancys First Affair was trained locally by Joe Bassett. I Like The Odds was the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association 2-year-old gelding of the year and also Los Alamitos’ top 2-year-old gelding as voted by the Quarter Horse racing media.
