Farriers joining forces for better horse hoof care

Every horse owner throughout Canada and the United States will benefit by knowing their horse is in good and knowledgeable hands because of their farriers membership in the AAPF and the CAPF.

The CAPF invites farriers representing all horse breeds and disciplines to join.  Industry accreditation can be achieved by enrolling in our educational programs designed to enhance the art and science of farriery.  With additional educational background, every horse owner throughout Canada and the United States will benefit by knowing their horse is in good and knowledgeable hands.

Regular membership in the AAPF and CAPF is open to any full-time or part-time farrier.

As part of this exciting news, JLT Sport, a division of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada Inc. is proud to be associated with the Canadian Association of Professional Farriers.  Together, we are introducing a tailored and affordable Farrier Insurance Program for all farriers to help meet the needs of their daily business activities by providing protection on or off their premises.

Insurance coverages are available for General Liability; Care Custody and Control Extension and Miscellaneous Farrier Equipment and Tool Floater.  Special rates for CAPF members are available.

What kind of protection does the Farrier’s Insurance Program provide?

According to Markel Insurance Company in the US, if a person (other than an employee) is injured on your premises or as a result of your business activities, you are covered.  If property is damaged because of your negligence you are also covered.  You are protected for claims against products you sell or work you have performed.  If a horse is injured or dies while in your care, custody and control, you are covered up to certain limits spelled out in the policy.  In addition, your equipment and supplies are covered against loss or damage!

General Liability:  (including legal defense costs) on an occurrence form up to limits of $300,000 CSL, $500,000 CSL or $1,000,000 CSL.

On and Off Premises:  protection against claims made and legal judgements rendered against  you and your business due to bodily injury or property damage caused by your farrier activities, regardless of where the claim occurred. (Claims by employees are not covered.)

Completed Operations:  coverage for claims and legal judgements due to bodily injury or property damage caused by work you have performed.  For example: a shoe comes off two or three days after it is put on, resulting in injuries to the horse and rider.

Care, Custody and Control Liability:  standard limits of $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000.  This important benefit picks up coverage for injury  to any non-owned horse as a result of your  negligence as Farrier while the horse is in your care, custody and control.

Equipment & Supplies Floater (currently not available in TX): standard limits of $1,000, $2,500 or $5,000 with a $500 deductible per claim.  This coverage provides protection for loss or damage to your transportable inventory of horse shoes, tools and supplies that are used in connection with your farrier practice.  Theft is covered but please refer to the policy for  specific details on other perils covered.
