New York State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she’s sponsoring two, no-cost Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) vaccine clinics for horses this week. The New Haven clinic will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday June 29 at the New Haven Highway Department on Route 104. The other clinic will be held in Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County.
Free horse vaccination clinics are paid for by a special grant Ritchie obtained through the NY state budget, and in cooperation with local veterinarians.

The clinics are aimed at raising public awareness and preventing the spread of Eastern Equine Encephalitis, the mosquito-borne disease that killed at least 12 horses in Central and Northern New York last summer, and also claimed the life of 4-year-old Maggie Wilcox, of New Haven. .
Money also was included in the state budget for low–cost vaccinations for horses. In addition to the no-cost clinics. Horse owners can obtain a $15 discount on EEE vaccinations directly through their veterinarians.
