Horse Owners In Scotland Learning Better Pasture Management

Horse owners in Scotland are hoping sick, weedy horse pastures will soon be a thing of the past thanks to efforts by the British Horse Society of Scotland to advise those caring for horses on better methods of grassland management.

The British Horse Society of Scotland is holding grassland management days in September and October 2013 where many horse owners will attend to learn about improving their grazing land.

The British Horse Society of Scotland is holding grassland management days in partnership with Scottish Agriducultural Colleges at Oatridge College in September and October where many horse owners will attend to learn about improving their grazing land.

Sessions with different presentations are being held covering good welfare, soils, drainage and aeration, lime fertilizer and weeds, seed mixes, worm control, grass sickness and record keeping.

A rotation of field visits covering soil profiles, equipment sprayed fields, reseeding of pastures, and tips for managing grazing to create a rotation and prevention of poaching are all part of the program.

The next Grassland Management Day is scheduled at the Newtonmore Riding Centre on 25 October, 2013 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm.
