Kauffman’s Animal Health, a leader in the animal health industry for over 30 years would like to remind you to observe your horse carefully during seasonal and/or weather changes. As fall quickly approaches pastures will be experiencing a flush of growth which will cause a drastic change in the composition of the grass.

At this time fructans or plant sugars will increase and accumulate in the grass. When horses eat large amounts of sugars they are not always able to digest all the sugars before they reach the hindgut. The introduction of sugars into the hindgut changes the pH in the cecum and can cause the beneficial bacteria that live in the cecum to quickly die off often resulting in colic or laminitis.

Monitor your horses grazing schedule closely and consider limiting grazing times to early morning hours when fructan levels are their lowest. Also consider adding direct-fed microbials (probiotics), yeast and digestive enzymes like Kauffman’s Equine Gold to your horse’s diet. Research has shown that including these beneficial bacteria in your horse’s diet may give the colic prone horse some additional aid in preventing colic by keeping the digestive tract populated with beneficial bacteria.

Kauffman’s Equine Gold is an ideal blend of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (active, dry cell yeast), direct-fed microbials, and digestive enzymes. The active dry cell yeast scavenge oxygen in the gut to aid in anaerobic fiber digestion, while the five strains of equine specific beneficial bacteria and digestive enzymes enhance total tract digestibility of a variety of feedstuffs.

Kauffman’s Equine Gold has a total microbial count exceeding 807 Billion Colony Forming Units (CFU)/lb or 50.4 Billion CFU/oz. Compare this level to other direct-fed microbial products on the market along with the five different strains of equine specific bacteria and you can see for yourself why Kauffman’s Equine Gold has been a leader in the market for over 30 years.

Kauffman’s Equine Gold is available in 4, 10 and 35 lb pails. Visit us online or at your local dealer for September savings on Kauffman’s Equine Gold.
