With the banner: "Help horses in need. Take part in the Michigan Equine Foundation's Free Horse Health Care Clinic, September 28-29, 2012," the Michigan Equine Foundation is hoping to catch the attention of horse owners who need help in caring for their horses.
Do you know of a neighbor, friend, or even yourself whose horse needs health care services but cannot currently afford them due to extended unemployment, a family health emergency, or an unforeseen financial crisis?
Free clinic for Michigan horse owners
Free clinic will have veterinarians from MSU, as well as local volunteer practitioners providing immunizations, deworming, castrations, dental work, coggins testing, and basic health exams.
The Michigan Equine Foundation will be holding a Free Horse Health Care Clinic to meet these needs.
On September 28th, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., the Michigan Equine Foundation, a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide for equine wellness primarily through education, will have a speaker focusing on preparing horses for winter and providing nutrition is times of hay shortage at the North West Michigan Fairgrounds.
This event is free to the public and will teach tips for winterizing horses, including nutrition tips in anticipation of hay shortages that are expected this year due to drought conditions.
The following day, September 29th, also at the fairgrounds, the Michigan Equine Foundation will provide health services from a wide range of equine practitioners for persons who cannot afford care for their horses due to unemployment, health or financial crisis, or other unforeseen circumstances.
The increase in the number of equine neglect cases indicates that a clinic of this type is greatly needed. There will be veterinarians from MSU, as well as local volunteer practitioners providing immunizations, deworming, castrations, dental work, coggins testing, and basic health exams. This Horse Health Clinic is provided in partnership with the Northwestern Michigan Fair Board, Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Pfizer, Merck Animal Health and Black Star Farms.

The Michigan Equine Foundation is offering help for horse owners struggling with higher costs of feed. On Friday, Sept. 28 the non-profit organization is hosting an event to help horse owners prepare for winter and give tips on dealing with the hay shortage. The free seminar will take place at the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds starting at 6pm.
The following day the organization is holding a Health Care Clinic at the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds. The clinic will take place all day Saturday, Sept. 29 and will include free vaccinations, dentistry and other services. Owners interested in taking part must contact the organization and sign up for the health care.
