Nutrition and dental care go hand-in-hand

Teleseminars will focus on connecting equine nutrition to health care and management topics.

The first in this series titled Nutrition and Dental Care of The Senior Horse featuring special guest Dr. Geoff Tucker is scheduled for Wednesday March 21st starting at 5pm PST.  To register visit http://www.summit-equine.com/teleseminars

There is a minimal charge for participatiion in the teleseminars.

“I view nutrition as an integrated part of equine health and management” explains Thunes.   “I can put together a great diet for a horse but if the horse has poor dental health or parasites for example the diet may not be fully effective.  For this reason I am partnering with allied health care and management professionals to discuss nutrition topics in an integrated way”.

The first in this series focuses on nutrition and dental care of the senior horse and Dr. Thunes has partnered with equine dentist Dr. Geoff Tucker DVM owner of The Equine Practice.

Poor dental health can have a very damaging effect on a horse’s wellbeing requiring changes in the types of feeds offered and how they are processed.  Properly feeding such horses is a team effort involving getting them the right dental care and providing them the right feed.

Having performed over 50,000 floats during his time in practice there is not much inside a horse’s mouth that Doc Tucker has not seen.  “Doc Tucker is a fantastic speaker.” says Thunes “He has a way of explaining how the mouth is supposed to function and the biology of teeth in a way that everyone can understand."

Because senior horse dental care really starts before the horse is a senior this event will have something for everyone.

The event will be recorded so that registered attendees can listen again or decide to listen at another time more convenient for them.  They will also have the ability to submit questions ahead of time that will be answered during the seminar as well as live during the call.
