The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Events Department has been closely monitoring the reported cases of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1). While we do not feel there is an immediate threat to horses coming to the NRHA Derby Show (June 27-July 2) in Oklahoma City, we are taking every extra precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all of reining horses at the event. Under the council of our show veterinarian, we have implemented the following new check-in procedures. Please read carefully to ensure an easy and speedy check-in.
1. ALL HORSE TRAILERS MUST COME THROUGH THE SOUTH ENTRANCE OF BARN ROW (between the Super Barn and Barn 6) AND WILL BE STOPPED FOR INSPECTION. Each horse’s breed registration papers (or NRHA Competition License if it is not a registered horse), health papers and negative coggins will all be asked for and checked before the horses will be allowed to unload. Please have your papers easily accessible and ready to show.
a. Health papers must have been completed within the last 30 days. Health papers will be required for ALL horses, including horses from Oklahoma. If a horse arrives without health papers, the show veterinarian will be onsite to issue papers for a fee.
b. The negative coggins must have been done within the past 12 months.
c. Horses cannot move in before 8 a.m., Friday, June 24th.
2. It is highly recommended that if a horse has not been vaccinated within the last 60 days with the equine rhinopneumonitis vaccination that they been vaccinated (or re-vaccinated) at least 10 days prior to arriving at the show.
3. Oklahoma State Fair Park staff have assured us that they will be thoroughly disinfecting the entire barn area prior to our arrival.
4. You will also notice that we will be taking additional steps such as providing hand sanitizer, gloves and disposable towels to the pre-check judge.
5. Be sure to visit with your veterinarian about any additional precautions you should take as an exhibitor.
