The Bureau of Land Management has cancelled its wild horse adoption scheduled for next weekend in Ellensburg, Washington because of  feared exposure to EVH-1. One horse owner believes at least seven of his horses have been exposed to the virus.

The virus takes two to eight days to incubate in horses. If infected, the oxygen supply to the animal's brain can be cut off, paralyzing the horse until it dies.

State veterinarians are meeting tomorrow to agree on a date to lift the voluntary quarantine. To date more than 70 horses in the western states have come down with the virus, and 8 have died.
