With real estate rebounding, many developers are anxious to recoup their losses and start building. The problem for horse professionals is that development often means pushing stables further away from urban areas. This can seriously affect the growth and profitability of your stable and has forced many barns out of business.

Understanding land use zoning ordinance implications for horses

“What Horse Professionals and Stable Operators Need to Know About Land Use” is a free webinar available to all horse professionals on October 14, 2013.

It is important for equine professionals and landowners to understand the basics of land use planning, zoning ordinances, and their implications for horses and horse-related activities.

EquestrianProfessional.com and Equine Land Conservation Resource are partnering to bring horse professionals a free one-hour webinar on Monday, October 14th, introducing the basics of planning and zoning for the equestrian community.

Planning and zoning decisions can affect how land is taxed, what it may be used for, and which standards and regulations are applied to it. These regulations determine not only whether individuals may keep horses on their own property, but also whether horses have access to community parks and trails.

Equine enthusiasts and equine professionals need to know what is included in their community’s comprehensive plan and have an understanding of the zoning laws that apply to equine activities in their community.

A lack of participation and understanding by horsemen and women about planning and zoning in their community can lead to the loss of land for recreational riding and driving, competing, training, breeding, grazing and growing hay and grain. When it comes to land use planning, knowledge truly is power!

Webinar participants will also learn what to look for in zoning changes, how to get your hands on your counties comprehensive plan and how to influence local planning and zoning decisions to help you stay a jump ahead of the game. Additional information on planning and zoning for horsemen is available under Planning for Horses in Your Community at elcr.org.

“What Horse Professionals and Stable Operators Need to Know About Land Use” is a free webinar available to all horse professionals and can be attended via your phone or computer. However, you must register to attend.
